Does Your Current ISP scan for viruses and
SPAM?
We
do! At no extra charge!
Spam Protection
Spydernet
protects all email accounts from Spam by using multiple SPAM
filtering technologies including several Real-time Blacklist (RBL)
maintained by RSL.
This blacklists contains servers that are 'open relay' and used
to send unsolicited bulk email (Spam).
Spydernet scans and eliminates messages using a collaborative,
spam detection and filtering network whose primary focus is
to identify and disable an email spam before its injection
and processing is complete (this
includes get-rich-quick / pornographic material / etc.).
Our server rejects over 5000 messages/day, however, it's not
perfect as spammers are finding new ways to bypass filters
every day. Despite their efforts, our users tell us that more
than 95% of all SPAM are elimated by our many filters.
Other
ways to fight Spam are to:
- Be
careful when registering your personal information on web
sites. Many sites have a privacy policy and ask if
they can pass your information to their marketing partners
or whether you are interested in receiving other promotions.
Usually there is a box to check or uncheck to "opt out"
of these types of offers.
- Only
give out your email address to trusted friends and web sites.
- Be
careful when replying to a Spam message because that tells
the spammer that you are reading your email. In some
cases legitimate email marketers will take you off their
lists but it is often hard to determine if they are legitimate
or not. Legitimate marketers often provide information
on their company, how they got your email address, and their
privacy policy.
- Forward
Spam to abuse@spyderinternet.com
as an attachment so we can update our filter. To do
this in Outlook Express, select the message and choose Message
- Forward As Attachment.
Virus
Protection
Hackers
commonly spread viruses with email attachments that corrupt
your computer. Spydernet email accounts
are protected with anti-virus software and our server eliminates
about 15000 viruses a day. Before delivering messages
to you, we scan the message and any attachments for
viruses. If one is found, we delete the message before
it ever gets to your mailbox. Due to the nature of viruses,
we cannot guarantee 100% protection so we recommend the following:
- Use
regularly updated anti-virus software and activate its various
scanning options.
- Backup
your PC regularly. This will not prevent viruses but
it helps if your computer becomes infected and you have to
reformat it.
- Do
not open suspicious email attachments especially if the sender
is someone you know. The popular 'Love Bug' virus can
email itself out by accessing an address book without the
sender's knowledge.
